For the first time, 11 schools from the Transnistrian region designed blogs where the students can practice their writing skills and make public their accomplishments. 70 students from the Transnistrian region were helped to create blogs for the schools where they study. At the end of the training course, the young bloggers came together for a summer school organized with support from the EU – UNDP program “Support to Confidence Building Measures” to showcase the achieved results and exchange experience, IPN reports.

According to a press release from UNDP Moldova, the participants in the summer school said they learned and applied in an interactive way the writing rules for online media, acquired documentation and photographing techniques and techniques to successfully combine texts with images. The training of the bloggers forms part of a project aimed at developing the mass media in the Transnistrian region. It was implemented by the Center for Independent Journalism in partnership with the Media Center and the Tiraspol-based organization Stels-Tera, with assistance from the EU – UNDP program “Support to Confidence Building Measures”.

“The program to support the confidence building measures aims to encourage cooperation between the businesspeople from the two sides of the Nistru so as to deal with the challenges that affect equally, regardless of the place of residence – Chisinau, Bender or the Security Zone,” said Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Dirk Schuebel.

“Through the blogs, the young people can become involved in solving the problems affecting them, the generation and their communities. Every person wants their voice to be heard and their opinion to be taken into consideration,” said UNDP Resident Representative in Moldova Nicola Harrington-Buhay.

Within the project, there was also carried out a study to assess the needs of the Transnistrian mass media. Twenty professional journalists from the two banks of the Nistru were trained in multimedia and made in concert 10 media products that they published/broadcast on one or several media channels.

The €10.6 million “Support to Confidence Building Measures” Program is implemented by UNDP in 2012-2015. The money is provided by the EU and UNDP.
