Some 70% of the Moldovans are convinced they will take part in the parliamentary elections of February 24, 2019. 19% will probably vote, 6.6% are sure they will not vote, while 3.6% haven’t yet decided, shows an opinion poll carried out by the company Date Inteligente. The poll was presented in a news conference at IPN on January 30.

Asked who they would vote for in the parliamentary elections in the national constituency, 32% of the respondents answered the PSRM, 20% the bloc ACUM, 16.1% the PDM, 4.3% the Shor Party. 14% of those polled do not know if they will take part, while 7.9% intend not to take part in elections.

Based on the results, taking into account the undecided voters, Date Inteligente executive director Mihai Bologan presented two possible scenarios for the distribution of seats in the national constituency. If the Shor Party entered Parliament (minimum threshold is 6%), the PSRM would obtain 22 seats, the bloc ACUM – 14 seats, the PDM – 11 seats and the Shor Party – three seats. If the Shor Party didn’t enter Parliament, the other three parties would be distributed by a seat. Respectively, the PSRM would have 23 seats, the bloc ACUM – 15 seats and the PDM – 12 seats.

To the open question about the candidate they would vote for in single-member constituencies, the voters named Igor Dodon, a candidate of the PSRM and Maia Sandu. Of the 49% decided voters, 22% named Igor Dodon, 12% a candidate of the PSRM and 11.5% Maia Sandu. According to Mihai Bologan, as the poll was carried out before the election campaign, the respondents didn’t know the candidates in constituencies and thus named mainly a party.

The political affiliation of the candidate in the single-member constituency counts very much for 26% of the respondents, considerably for 31%, less for 17% and not at all for 12%. “We can expect that most of the electors will vote in constituencies according to the affiliation to the party and according to other qualities to a smaller extent,” stated Mihai Bologan. He noted that Igor Dodon is the most trusted politician. He is followed by Maia Sandu, Vladimir Plahotniuc, Pavel Filip, Andrei Năstase and Ilan Shor. Practically 19% of those surveyed trust no politician.

The poll reveals that 52% of the respondents do not know that a referendum will be held simultaneously with the parliamentary elections. About 80% of the respondents are for reducing the number of MPs from 101 to 61, while  70% are for recalling the MPs who do not fulfill their duties.

The poll was carried out during January 17-26 and covered a sample of 1,208 persons from 80 localities. The margin of sampling error is +/- 2.82%. The representatives of Date Inteligente said the survey was conducted at their own expense and forms part of the strategy for promoting the company.
