Over 70% of the Moldovans think the reforms done in the Republic of Moldova are inefficient and only 26% consider they are effective. Half of the respondents of a poll said the reforms can contribute to the development of democracy to a small extent or not at all, while over 30% said the opposite. The results of a poll conducted by the Association of Sociologists and Demographers of Moldova were presented on July 11, IPN reports.

About 80% of the respondents disapprove of the changes that occurred in the pension system, 78% - in the Transnistrian settlement process, 76% - in the banking system, 72% – in the economic sphere, 72% – in the justice sector, 71% – in the internal affairs, 67% – in the fight against corruption. Some 41% of those polled said the most visible changed were made in the local public administration, 38% - in culture, 36% in science, by 29% in education and foreign policy.

Four in ten respondents consider the Government headed by Pavel Filip can change things to the better, while 52% are skeptical about this. 7% could not state their opinion on the issue. Each sixth respondent thinks the recent Government reform (optimization of ministries and state agencies) can help build a friendlier business environment. About one third of those surveyed had a different opinion, while 46% said the given reform will contribute to building a favorable business climate only partially.

Only 5% of those interviewed consider the sociopolitical situation in Moldova has improved during the last two-three years. More than 77% think it has worsened. Each fifth respondent said the sociopolitical situation in Moldova has worsened owing to the invalidation of the Chisinau early mayoral elections. 17% invoked the disastrous impact of the reforms done in Moldova, while 15% - corruption in the current political system.

One in three interviewed persons consider the May 20 mayoral elections were free and fair, while 37% said the protests mounted now in Chisinau can influence the decisions of the national political class. Among the most worrisome problems are poverty, lack of revenues, low living standards, corruption of functionaries, high prices of food products and public utilities.

If a referendum on entry into the European Union or the Eurasian Economic Union was held, 39% of those polled would choose the EU, while 40% the Eurasian Union. 7% would not take part in this, while 14% could not state their opinion.

The poll was carried out in 81 localities, except the Transnistrian region, during June 26 and July 7, 2018 and covered a sample of 1,195 persons. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3%.
