More than 60 tonnes of electrical and electronic waste have been collected this year at the points set up as part of the project “Clean City with Recycled e-Waste” and the campaign launched by “Hai Moldova”. The waste was taken to a recycling plant in Romania.
Contacted by IPN, Aurelia Bahnaru, manager of the project “Clean City with Recycled e-Waste”, said there are now 120 collection points in the city, situated inside public, private and academic institutions. These consist of containers for small waste items, such as batteries, telephones, laptops or toasters.
There were also installed eight containers for large electronic waste items, such as TV sets or even washing machines. Seven are located on the territory of filling stations and one in the building of a company that sells and repairs electronic equipment.
The project is implemented with support from the GEF Small Grants Program implemented by UNDP and has a budget of US$ 45,000.
