As many as 55 cases of seasonal flu have been confirmed this year so far, Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Moldovanu announced in the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channel. He assured that the situation is under control and the state is provided with medicines for treating flu, Info-Prim Neo reports. Mihai Moldovanu said the 55 cases of flu were recorded in the municipalities of Chisinau and in Calarasi, Ungheni, Cimislia, Comrat, and Soroca districts by January 30. The most serious case is the case of the young man from Ungheni, who went to the doctor with delay. He was transferred to Chisinau for treatment. There are also patients who receive treatment at home. The patients diagnosed with flu are of different ages. The Deputy Prime Minister said that though the number of cases of flu increased, the epidemiological level wasn’t passed. He denied the reports that quarantine was instituted in a number of settlements. According to him, they only stepped up the protection measures in the settlements from where the patients diagnosed with flu come, in education and medical institutions, in transport and industrial units, and in customs. According to specialists, the flu period this year started later and may be shorter. Doctors recommend taking such prevention measures as avoiding crowded and closed areas and contact with sick persons, using masks, washing the hands, airing the rooms and going to the doctor when the first symptoms appear. In the 2009-2010 pandemic period, 43 persons died of flu in Moldova. Afterward, the Moldovan authorities bought 100,000 doses of vaccine and 24% of the population was vaccinated. After vaccination, the morbidity rate fell five times. No cases of death from flu were recorded in 2011-2012.
