The court ordered to confiscate a some of about half a million lei that a Turkish citizen tried to smuggle into Moldova by not declaring it when arriving at the Chisinau International Airport from Istanbul, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases.

It happened at the beginning of this year. When entering Moldova, the Turkish man had money in different currencies on him, such as U.S. dollars, euros, Turkish lire and Moldovan lei. When converted into Moldova lei, the undeclared amount came to about half a million Moldovan lei. The law provides the sums larger than €10,000 must be declared. The money was found and seized by customs inspectors.

For five times during the last few years, the man legally introduced money into the Republic of Moldova. This shows the person knew the Moldovan legislation concerning the sum of money that can be brought in without being declared. Therefore, the state prosecutor asked to confiscate the undeclared money for the benefit of the state.
