500 persons cured of COVID-19 donated convalescent plasma

Almost 500 persons cured of COVID-19 provided over 1,600 doses of plasma for patients with serious and very serious forms of the disease, IPN reports, with reference to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection.

As many as 465 doses of plasma were distributed to the National Clinical Hospital. The other doses were taken to the Emergency Medicine Institute, Municipal Clinical Hospital No. 1, “Archangel Mikhail” Municipal Clinical Hospital, Saint Trinity Municipal Clinical Hospital and other medical institutions, including from outside Chisinau. As many as 476 doses remained for transfusion and validation.

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection reiterates its call to the persons who recovered from COVID-19 to help the patients in a serious state by donating convalescent plasma that contains antibodies that can be used to neutralize the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

The donors must be men aged between 18 and 60 and must not suffer from such chronic diseases as diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular and lung diseases, liver and kidney diseases. The plasma can be donated after 14 days of the disappearance of the last symptom of disease or after full recovery.

The persons can donate plasma at the National Blood Transfusion Center, which has local subdivisions in Bălți, Cahul and Chisinau, and at other donation centers.
