Today 500 days ago Russia started its war of aggression against Ukraine. Moldova’s President Maia Sandu declared in a message of support that Ukraine will win and that the Ukrainians, as a people of peace, can count on Moldova’s support.
“500 days ago, peaceful people sleeping in their homes, living on their land, were awakened by the explosions of bombs and the roar of tanks. Innocent people executed and left to rot in the streets or dumped into mass graves. At Bucha, at Irpin, at Hostomel, at Borodianka. Women raped and children killed or maimed by bombs”, declared Sandu.
“Those abled, women and men, have taken up arms and are defending their country. Millions of mothers with children and the elderly were forced to leave their homes and take shelter in basements, subway stations or flee to other regions of Ukraine or other countries. This brutal war sows death and terror. The invaders are destroying buildings and homes, bombing electrical networks, destroying water systems, devastating everything”, wrote Maia Sandu.
According to the Moldovan president, thanks to the courage of the Ukrainian military and the resistance of the civilian population, there is peace in Moldova. The Republic of Moldova stands in solidarity with Ukraine and will do everything possible to be by its side. Ukrainians are and will be welcome in Moldova. As part of the international community, Moldova will join efforts to hold Russia accountable for its war crimes.
