Fifty public transport stations in Chisinau are to be revamped. The municipality has launched the public procurement procedures and bids to the tender contest can be submitted during September 16 – 28, IPN reports.
“By the end of this year, we will set up pavilions and will be able to adjust the dimensions depending on the location, in places where these are fully damaged or are even absent. The platforms will be paved or asphalted by the sidewalks and access to stations for persons with special needs or for parents with babies in carriages will be ensured,” said mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban.
A sum of 4.5 million lei was allocated from the municipal budget for these works.
Over 400 public transport stations in the capital city have been renovated the past few years with the assistance of public and private partners. Depending on necessities, the works included the repair of existing pavilions, their replacement or building in places where no pavilions ever existed.
Since the end of last year up to now, the General Public Transport and Communications Division managed to rehabilitate 100 public transport stations at a cost of 8 million lei. Renovation works are now also performed by the business entity that manages 300 stations in Chisinau.
There are 952 public transport stations in the municipality of Chisinau. Of them, 619 are situated in the city, while 333 are in the suburban settlements.
