A man aged 49 was found guilty of raping a 14-year-old girl. He was sentenced to 10 years in a closed prison and obliged to pay court costs and 100,000 lei in respect of non-pecuniary damages, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, on April 3, 2023 the defendant, being inebriated at his home located in a village in southern Moldova, forced the girl to have sex with him by constraining her physically and mentally. He didn’t admit his guilt.
The sentence can be appealed within 15 days. The court replaced the preventive measure of house arrest with remand detention and the man was taken into custody from the courtroom.
