Starting with 2003 and until now in the Republic of Moldova were build 451 thermal stations, including 105-in 2003, 154- in 2004 and respective 192- in 2005.
The thermal stations were built in conformity with the National Program of Renovation and Decentralization of the Heat Supply Systems in the Republic of Moldova, approved in august 2003.
The minister of Industry and Infrastructure, Vladimir Antosii, declared recently that the thermal structure of the Project Energy II, financed by the World Bank, worth 10 million dollars, was 80% accomplished. The other 2 million dollars will be used this year for building three thermal stations- at the Cardiologic Center of the Municipal Hospital, at the Institute for Cancer Illnesses and at the Center for Children Placement.
Antosii requested the Government to provide for the construction of thermal stations with turbines of combined cycle, meaning with power production also, because otherwise once the natural gas will get more expensive these kind of thermal stations will not be cost-efficient.
The Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev thinks that no matter the price the natural gas is more convenient then any other energy resources, like coal or wood.
