40 shells demolished as part of risky mission in Șerpeni

Explosive ordnance disposal technicians of the National Army carried out 15 demining missions during which they neutralized 40 dangerous explosive items dating back to World War II. The shells were neutralized under maximum security conditions, IPN reports.

During the operations carried out in September, 38 explosive objects were detected and destroyed in the districts of Ungheni, Ialoveni, Leova, Ștefan Vodă, Căușeni, Anenii Noi, Ocnița, Strășeni, and Criuleni.

According to senior officer of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service, major Ivan Cornegruţa, one of the most dangerous demining missions was carried out on the outskirts of Șerpeni in Anenii Noi district. As a result, the team of technicians of “Codru” Battalion, led by sergeant Andrei Matei, neutralized 18 hand grenades, an artillery projectile and a thrower bomb.

As many as 116 demining missions have been carried out so far this year and 248 explosive objects of various types and 505 rounds of ammunition have been destroyed.
