During a year, 40 minors from penitentiaries No. 10 Goian and No. 13 Chisinau attended communication courses and cobbler and obtained graduation certificates that will enable them to get job when they are set free. The training took place within the project “A New Life for Delinquent Young People” that was implemented by the Department of Penitentiary Institutions with financing from the Government of Romania, IPN has learned from the Ministry of Justice.
Secretary general of state at the Ministry of Justice Anatolie Munteanu and Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova Daniel Ionita took part in the conference held to mark the completion of the project that represented a model of good practices for local players involved in the socio-professional inclusion of minors in detention.
“It is our duty to learn from the expertise of our colleagues and good experience to as to move things on, either it is about support for young people, women with children or about our ambitious project to implement the progressive detention regime,” stated Anatolie Munteanu.
Ambassador Daniel Ionita said something practical and necessary was done. “The Romanian expertise is the result of the efforts made to implement reforms in an important sector – human rights,” he stated.
The project was launched based on a partnership agreement signed by the Department of Penitentiary Institutions and the West University and Intercultural Institute of Timisoara, Romania. Romania’s financial contribution came to US$100,000. The money was allocated from the Official Development Assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
