360,000 students attending school year start festivity

About 360,000 students are taking part in the festivity held to mark the beginning of the new school year on September 2. Of them, 35,000 are first graders. The first class of the new school year is themed “Culture of the Republic of Moldova after 22 years of independence,” IPN reports. 

According to the Ministry of Education, 31 textbook titles will be available for students in primary and secondary education. The first-fourth graders, the children from socially deprived families and the fifth-twelfth graders of the Transnistrian schools and of the Bender schools controlled by the Ministry of Education of Moldova will be provided with free meals.

The extensive repairs works in education institutions from ten districts were 100% finished, in four districts - 40%, while in the other administrative units - 60-80%.

Moldova has 1,460 pre-university education institutions, 1,400 preschool education institutions, 66 secondary vocational education establishments, 46 colleges and 34 universities (19 state-run and 15 private ones).
