Thirty-six citizens of the Republic of Moldova on Tuesday were evacuated from the Gaza Strip after a period of uncertainty and negotiations and are safe, said President Maia Sandu, being quoted by IPN.

“I’m grateful to all those who worked tirelessly on this complex evacuation process: the employees of our embassies in Israel and Turkey, with the latter covering also Egypt, the team of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, counterparts from other involved institutions and also our strategic partners, Romania, Ukraine and the United States of America. Owing to this joint effort, our citizens are safe,” said President Sandu.

The evacuated Moldovan citizens are in the care of the consular functionary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, who took them over at the Rafah crossing point, on the border with Egypt. The authorities assure that these are offered all the necessary support, including consular assistance and the organization of the next stage of their trip to the Republic of Moldova.

“From Cairo, our citizens will be transported to Bucharest, together with Romanian citizens, by a special flight organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania and will be later taken by a car provided by the authorities. I’m very glad that they are safe. I wish them an easy journey and we are waiting for them home,” stated Maia Sandu.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration on Tuesday announced that the Israeli and Egyptian authorities permitted the evacuation of Moldovan citizens from the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing point. According to official reports, over 7,000 foreigners are now in the Gaza Strip and they will be evacuated gradually.
