Some 3,400 signatures were collected to encourage the Moldovan Parliament to ratify the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, after the campaign started in December 2008, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The drive is unfolded by a so-called Initiative for ratifying the UN Convention on Persons with Disabilities, joining a number of NGOs. 34 of them adhered to the initiative.
According to Cibotarica from the Legal Assistance Center for Persons with Disabilities, “ratifying the Convention will open this country the opportunity to benefit from the information, experiences and the best world practices for the people with special needs. The implementation of the convention would lead to more labor force. Of those 170,000 disabled in Moldova, 120,000 could work. It’s 10 of the working employees in Moldova, amounting to 1.3 million.”
The Initiative to ratify the UN Convention was launched on December 2, 2008, by 14 NGOs to promote the ratification of this document by the Moldovan Parliament. Their activities are supported by SIDA and the Soros Foundation.
