The nurseries of the Forestry Agency “Moldsilva” this year will offer for sale approximately 33,000 Christmas trees and about 3,000 branches, IPN reports.

The largest number of Christmas trees this year will be supplied by the forest companies of Edinet, Straseni, Tighina, Glodeni, Balti, and Soroca.

The height of a Christmas tree varies from one meter to six meters. The selling prices at nurseries remained unchanged. A one-meter high spruce fir costs minim 36 lei, while a pine tree - 25lei, VAT included. The branches are sold for 8 lei. A supplement of 100 lei per meter is set for spruce firs that are over six meters in height and of 70 lei for pine trees.

“Moldsilva” said this price is fixed for Christmas trees sold directly from nurseries. The Agency does not bear responsibility for the final selling price set by the intermediaries – private individuals or legal entities.

The cutting of spruce firs starts in the first half of December and ends on December 31, depending on the demand.

The illegal cutting is punished with a fine of up to 1,000 lei in the case of private individuals and of up to 10,000 lei in the case of legal entities.
