The Râşcani Emergency Medical Assistance Substation stopped work and is in quarantine. So far, 32 of its employees were confirmed with COVID-19, director of the National Emergency Pre-Hospital Medical Assistance Center Boris Golovin stated after the meeting of the National Focal Point.

IPN quoted Boris Golovin as saying that the first case of infection of a medical worker of the Râșcani substation, the Cricova Emergency Medical Assistance Unit, was recorded on March 18. The case proved fatal and measures were taken to isolate those who had been in contact with this person. On April 2, the employees started to be tested and four persons were diagnosed with COVID-19 and were hospitalized.

According to the director, despite the taken measures, sporadic cases of infection were detected. As the psychological climate at the Râșcani substation was tense, it was decided to test the employees again. As a result, there were confirmed 32 infections with COVID-19. A person was hospitalized, while the others receive treatment at home.

Among those infected are five doctors, 12 medical assistants, four nurses, eight drivers and three ancillary workers. As the number of persons with whom these were in contact is high and in order to stop the spread of the virus, it was decided to put the substation in quarantine for 14 days.

A number of 3,638 infections with the novel coronavirus have been confirmed in Moldova so far. Of these, 107 persons died. As many as 932 cases of infection are among healthcare workers.
