31 minors arrested for serious and especially serious offenses last year

A number of 798 criminal cases against minors were started in 2017, as opposed to 1,290 cases in 2016, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, 42 minors were arrested last year. Of these, 31 were accused of committing serious, especially serious and exceptionally serious offenses, being held on remand.

Most of the offenses were crimes against property. There were started 555 criminal cases over thefts, 52 cases over robberies and 8 cases over burglaries. As many as 71 contravention reports were drawn up against minors over petty thefts.

The investigations into 738 cases involving minors were completed and 540 cases were sent to court.

Statistics show the minors repeatedly committed 111 offenses for which punishment was not imposed earlier following amicable settlements or for which suspended sentences or fines were given.
