303 applications for financing energy efficiency projects

As many as 303 applications for allocating financing from the Government’s Energy Efficiency Fund had been submitted by the February 15 deadline, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference on February 19, energy efficiency expert Simion Berzoi said that the proposed projects require financing of over 500 million lei, which is beyond the possibilities of the Energy Efficiency Fund that includes 80 million lei. The most active in submitting applications were the residents of Stefan Voda, Criuleni, Chisinau, and Orhei districts. The winning projects will be announced within 30-35 working days. The financial support will be offered in the form of grants of 150,000 to 3 million lei for a project. The beneficiary’s contribution must be at least 20%. Each applicant could put forward at most three projects. Vadim Ceban, head of the Economy Ministry’s General Security and Energy Efficiency Division, said that there were adopted two main strategic documents as regards the energy efficiency, while the main objective is to obtain an energy saving of 20% in 2020. Calin Negura, vice director of the Energy Efficiency Agency, said that 17 measures are to be implemented in five related sectors. These measures will be covered with money from the state budget and with financial support from the foreign partners. A sum of €260 million was planned for implementing the measures until 2015.
