On March 2, it has been 30 years of the start of the war for defending the territorial integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova. Almost 300 people were killed in this war, while 370 were hurt and remained disabled, IPN reports.

On March 2, 1992, armed guardians and Cossacks blocked the bridges over the Nistru towards Vadul lui Vodă and Lunga and the dam of the Hydropower Plant in Dubăsari. They limited the passing of transport over the bridges in Bender and Rîbniţa and towards Camenca.

Moldova’s Parliament declared March 2, 2022 the Year of Gratitude for the veterans who took part in the war for defending the territorial integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova, in respect for the patriotism of combatants who sacrificed their life and health for freedom, democracy and building of the rule of law in the Republic of Moldova.

On the occasion of the Memory Day, flowers will be laid at the graves of soldiers killed in this war.

According to the action plan on the Year of Gratitude, the persons who remained with disabilities as a result of the war and the families of those who died in the line of duty will receive annual financial support, while the war veterans will benefit from a thorough medical checkup and, if necessary, from hospital and sanatorium treatment.

There will be mounted exhibitions of historical materials and documents concerning the killed heroes, sports events and educational-patriotic activities at education institutions. The participants in the war for defending the territorial integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova will meet with recruits, service members of the National Army, employees of the Security and Intelligence Service and of institutions managed by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The ceasefire agreement was signed by the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation on July 21, 1992.
