Thirty students received diplomas showing that they graduated from the series of seminars themed “NATO in the 21st Century” organized by the NATO Information and Documentation Center between October 2008 and March 2009, Info-Prim Neo reports.
At the ceremony to hand over the diplomas, the Center’s director Viorel Cibotaru said that the seminars centered on the structure of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and its operation ways in different areas.
“There were simulated different situations for the students to understand how NATO works and how the decisions are taken. Every student played the role of a NATO member state and of the partners. We also talked about the image of NATO in the West. A special role was played by the Moldova-NATO cooperation programs, especially the Partnership for Peace and Moldova’s Individual Partnership Action Plan with NATO,” Viorel Cibotaru said.
”The students learnt methods of ensuring international security and this will help them understand how things in the area of security are put into practice and even find a job in the future,” said Petr Lunak, the NATO representative in Brussels. According to him, the students managed to enrich their knowledge about the activity of NATO. In the future, these students will be engaged in different related summer schools that will be held in other countries.
“I learnt how NATO operates and which are its basic principles, ideas and goals, what was NATO’s initial aim, how it was transformed later and how it contributes to the stabilization of the situation where necessary,” said one of the students Adrian Gavrilita.
According to organizers, a new contest for a new round of seminars will be held in autumn.
