30 political parties may campaign for referendum

Thirty political parties are eligible to participate in the campaign preceding the constitutional referendum on September 5, Central Election Commission chairman Eugeniu Stirbu told a meeting with political representatives on Friday, Info-Prim Neo reports. The CEC chairman said, in this campaign, the campaigners will not be called ‘electoral contestants’ but ‘participants’. To be able to participate in the campaign, the parties need to submit a request to the CEC until August 4. On July 7, Parliament adopted a decision to hold a referendum for the amendment of the Constitution. People will be asked a single question: “Do you agree with the amendment of the Constitution that will make it possible for the president of Moldova to be elected directly by the people?”
