The Swearing-in Ceremony for 30 new Peace Corps Volunteers took place on July 29, 2015. This is the 30th group of Volunteers in Moldova, IPN reports.

Before beginning their service, the trainees had a 10-week “Pre-Service Training,” to study Romanian, learn about Moldovan culture and have technical sessions.  Now the Volunteers will work in schools, community centers and business incubators throughout Moldova and in Community and Organizational Development.

Today, the 30 volunteers promised to serve the people of Moldova and to share with them the culture “with creativity, cultural sensibility and respect”. For most of these, the visit to Moldova is the first trip to the European continent. They are glad to have come to Moldova and say they appreciate the hospitality by which they were welcomed.

Since President John F. Kennedy established the Peace Corps by executive order on March 1, 1961, more than 200,000 Americans have served in 139 host countries. Peace Corps service is a 27-month commitment and the agency’s mission is to promote world peace and friendship and a better understanding between Americans and people of other countries.
