30 days of house arrest for Sergiu Mocanu

Politician Sergiu Mocanu was put under house arrest until July 12. The decision was passed by the Buiucani District Court on June 11, Info-Prim Neo reports. The judge rejected the prosecutor’s application to extend the arrest warrant and the defense’s application to apply an alternative measure such as personal guarantee and ruled that Mocanu will be placed under house arrest for 30 days. Mocanu’s lawyer Ion Dron said that letters of guarantee for Sergiu Mocanu were presented by writer Andrei Strambeanu, panpipe player Vasile Iovu and priest Pavel Borshevski. Sergiu Mocanu has been held in the penitentiary No. 13 in Chisinau. He is accused of organizing and conducting the April 7 protests in downtown Chisinau. On June 10, another person arrested after the April protests, Anatol Matasaru, was also put under house arrest.
