Voting goes normally and about 29% of the people written on the electoral registers have marked their ballots by 1pm. Members of the Central Election Commission called for calm so as to ensure the smooth running of the election process, IPN reports.

CEC president Alina Russu in a press briefing said the Commission didn’t receive complaints about incidents or major violations. The electors aged between 56 and 70 are the most active ones, with the turnout in this age category being of over 34%.

The voter turnout in Rezina district is the highest, of slightly over 30% of the voters in this constituency, while in Cantemir district is the lowest, of nearly over 20%. The highest voter turnout was recorded in Pocrovca village of Donduseni district, while the lowest one in Caracusenii Vechi, Briceni.

Alina Russu said more than 43,000 Moldovans cast their votes abroad. About 13,000 Moldovans voted in Italy, over 5,000 in Romania, 4,291 in Russia and 2,930 in France. She denied the press reports that there are no more ballots at two polling places in Italy, in Bologna and Padova.

At 2pm Moldova’s time, the polling place in Tokyo closes. Ten polling places will open in Canada and the United States during the next few hours.

The CEC members called upon to voters not to resort to acts of electoral fraud so as to avoid criminal accountability.
