Anticorruption prosecutors arrested 28 police officers of the National Patrolling Inspectorate on suspicion of passive corruptions. Viorel Morari, chief of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, told a news conference that the move followed complaints from drivers and managers of transport companies, IPN reports.
According to the accumulated evidence, the patrolling inspectors asked for and received amounts varying between 100 lei and US$ 1,000 for not writing reports for driving under the influence, speeding, traveling with the belt unfastened, travelling at the red color of the stoplights, violations in passenger transportation and other illegalities against them.
The police officers face 5 to 10 years in jail and a fine of 120 000 to 400,000 lei.
