278 polling stations are proposed to be opened abroad for the presidential election and the constitutional referendum to take place simultaneously on October 20. The Central Electoral Commission has published the preliminary information about the possible locations of the polling stations.

The largest number of polling stations is proposed to be opened in Italy, with a total of 62 stations. The Russian Federation comes in second with 29 proposed polling stations, followed by Germany with 23 polling stations. 21 polling stations are to be opened in France and the United States, 17 in Great Britain, 16 in Romania, 11 each in Spain and Ireland, etc.

“In the analysis of the possible locations of the polling stations abroad, the data held by the CEC regarding the dynamics of the participation in the elections of citizens with the right to vote of the Republic of Moldova at all the polling stations previously established abroad are taken into account and indicated, as well as the information held by the MFA or published by the competent authorities of the host countries regarding the number and location of citizens of the Republic of Moldova abroad”, CEC said in a press release.

For countries or localities in which a “low or medium probability” of opening polling stations is indicated, the authorities urge voters to register in advance, until September 6. To date, 5458 people have pre-registered on the CEC page. The most are in the Russian Federation – 1,697, Germany – 547, Italy – 544.
