A number of 26 pre-school education institutions of the 158 working in the municipality of Chisinau have been closed for cleanup or current repair works. To be able to close the kindergartens, the managers have to coordinate the process with district education divisions. The parents who cannot keep the children at home write applications to have their children enrolled at a kindergarten in the vicinity on a temporary basis. Such details were provided by the deputy head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport Viorica Negrei in the June 26 meeting of officials of Chisinau services.
Each year, up to 80 pre-school education institutions are closed for a period of at most 30 days. This year the kindergartens are closed for 14 to 40 days, depending on necessities. “Currently, only 64% of the children attend the kindergartens. The rest of the children stay at home for different reasons. The kindergartens sustain additional costs when the number of attending children is low and thus some of the groups have to be closed,” stated Viorica Negrei.
This year, as the previous year, the repair works will start at the end of summer or the start of autumn. Cosmetic repair works will be performed with money available in kindergartens’ budgets and with allocations coming from parents.
This year the Chisinau City Hall has allocated over 42 million lei for repairing schools and kindergartens. Of this sum, 14 million lei is designed for purchasing equipment for school and kindergarten canteens.
