About 25,000 firs will be on sale from the markets of the country before the winter holidays. The prices remained the same as last year. The largest quantity of fir trees is available at the nurseries in Edinet, Glodeni, Hancesti, Soroca and Cimislia, IPN reports.
The head of the press service of “Moldsilva” Forestry Agency Viorica Caciuc said the height of a fir tree varies between 1 meter and 6 meters. Approximately 13,000 trees are 1 – 2 meters in height. These firs are in the greatest demand. A tree of 1 meter at nurseries will cost 36 lei, while branches will be sold for 8 lei. On the market the prices may be twice or even thrice higher.
The Agency “Moldsilva” warns that the illegal cutting of trees from its forests or other green areas is punished with a fine of 800 to 1,000 lei for private individuals and of 8,000 to 10,000 lei for legal entities, or community service.
The fir trees in nurseries will start to be cut in the first half of December, deepening on the demand. Before they become Christmas trees, the firs are grown in nurseries for 5-7 years.
