About 250 children and youngsters of Chisinau, Balti, Orhei, Ungheni and Sangerei take part in an artistic performance dedicated to the 5-th edition of the World Day against Child Labor. The event is organized by the National Center for Child Abuse Preventing (NCCAP), International Labor Office (ILO), with the financial assistance of the International Program on the Elimination of Child Labor (IPECL) and of „Mission Moldavie Medecins du Monde”.
Stars, representatives of the local public authorities of Chisinau and other localities, active organizations in the area of children’s rights protection, as well as children, youngsters, and parents participate in this event.
According to organizers, among the children who came to the performance are as well children who experienced labor exploitation, including children traffic. Participants and guests to the show represent five target-regions where NCCAP has pilot-projects on fighting child labor exploitation, including children traffic.
Starting 1992, the International Program on the Elimination of Child Labor, within the International Labor Office, provides assistance in developing institutional capacities for fighting child labor exploitation and drafting appropriate national policies. IPEC has branches in 96 countries, and since 2003 is present in Moldova. Over the past 10 years, about 5 million children have benefited from direct support within IPEC.
The World Day against Child Labor, celebrated on June, was instituted by ILO in 2002 in order to draw attention to the public and decision-making bodies to the phenomenon and consequences of children exploitation through labor.
