As many as 24 km of dedicated bus and trolleybus lanes have been created in the capital city during four years since the launch of the initiative. At present, nine streets have “BUS” markings. On these road sections, only trolleybuses, buses, route minibuses, bicycles, scooters and emergency vehicles can move, IPN reports.
The dedicated lanes can become a rapid transit system on Chisinau’s main arteries. Thanks to them, the waiting time in public transport stations and the travel time have been reduced, while the municipal transport companies have fewer failed routes because the buses and trolleybuses do not get stuck in traffic jams, the Chisinau City Hall has said.
Other streets and boulevards are being considered for the implementation of dedicated public transport lanes.
