Authorities will allow a volume of about 23.4 thousand cubic meters of wood to be supplementary cut down in winter 2006-2007 in order to supply with heat the population, kindergartens, schools, hospitals in rural regions.
This rate has been established because the amount of wood cut down to date provided only 25-30% from the necessary volume of wood utilized in winter for heating.
Particularly, cutting locust trees from the forest fund administrated by the Forestry Agency “Moldsilva” is provided. According to the informative note of the agency, annexed to the respective decision approved on Wednesday by the Government, at present, “there is a surplus of locust tree brush, as well as of other species, of pre-exploitation age, a fact that, in several years, will endanger the continuity of forest use, imposed in conformity with the principles of normal forest”.
The new volume of tree cutting, approved by the Government represents 27.6% of the areas annually afforested by “Moldsilva”, which constitute circa 985,700 cubic meters.
