21 thousand undeclared euros, detected at Airport border crossing point

A 39-year-old man, who was due to arrive in the capital of France, has been detained for further checks after Border Police employees noticed several banknotes in his personal purse.

The man, a citizen of Romania, is investigated for the non-declaration of 21 thousand euros, an amount detected by the border guards during the security check when leaving the country, this morning.

According to the Border Police, the employees of the Customs Service of Chisinau International Airport crossing point were informed about the incident, the case falling within their competence.

Individuals are obliged to declare in writing to customs authorities the cash amounts exceeding ten thousand euros, or their equivalent, per person on a trip.

In order to take out of the country amounts ranging from ten thousand to 50 thousand euros, persons must submit the customs clearance documents confirming the introduction of means into the Republic of Moldova, a permission for taking the money out of the Republic of Moldova, issued by licensed banks or an authorization for withdrawal of money from the Republic of Moldova, issued by the National Bank of Moldova.

In the case of finding cash that exceeds ten thousand euros, the persons who did not declare the money will be sanctioned according to the contravention or criminal codes, as the case may be, and the undeclared difference can be confiscated.
