Two persons were arrested on suspicion that they smuggled 20 kilograms of mercury to the value of almost 10 million lei into Moldova. The two supposedly formed part of a criminal group that traded in poisonous substances in large amounts, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases and the Security and Intelligence Service, the mercury was kept in a store in Balti, from where it was seized today during an operation.
The arrested Moldovans face three to ten years in jail.
