The National Health Insurance Company this year will allocate 206 million lei for performing about 6,400 heart surgeries in children and grownups. The sum is by 29 million lei higher than in 2018. The operations are performed at two public and two private medical institutions contracted by the Company, IPN reports.
The medically insured persons are operated gratis. For a planned surgery, patients go to the family doctor who refers them to health specialists for having the necessary investigations and consultations.
A case treated under special heart surgery programs costs 27,000 lei in case of minimally invasive procedures in adults to almost 79,000 lei in case of pediatric surgery.
More than 5,700 persons underwent such type of surgery last years, by 90 patients more than a year before. As many as 47 minimally invasive surgeries were performed on children with congenital heart defects.
Also, the National Health Insurance Company in 2018 financed 150 cases as part of the program “Electrophysiology study and ablations” that ensures access to modern heart arrhythmia diagnostic and treatment services.
