A group of PAS lawmakers introduced a formal proposal to designate 2022 as the Year of Recognition for 1992 War Veterans to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the armed conflict, which in Chisinau is officially known as the War for Independence and Sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova.
More than 300 people were killed and 370 others were injured in the hostilities that broke out on March 2, 1992.
“Declaring 2022 as the Year of Recognition is proposed as a mark of our respect for the patriotism of veterans who sacrificed their lives and health fighting for freedom, democracy and the rule of law in the Republic of Moldova.
“Knowing the true value of freedom is indispensable. The young generation has a duty to know the price paid for the integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova, and the whole society must show gratitude to the surviving war veterans. Patriotism is part of the culture of every human being. It is a feeling that reflects the love for one’s country, respect for one’s ancestors, love for the people and their creations, but also for their native places”, says the note attached to the proposal.
The proposal has been submitted to the Government for consideration before it’s forwarded to Parliament for adoption.
