Breast milk is the food that is best suited to the nutrition needs of a child. It also prevents a series of infectious and non-infectious diseases and allows the child to develop harmoniously with his or her mother, says Stela Gheorghița, coordinator of emergency programs in public health, WHO Moldova, during an event dedicated to the third Breastfeeding Caravan.
According to a press release from WHO Moldova, during the event, dozens of mothers-to-be and parents with young children from Balti learned the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding in the first six months of life.
At the same time, the specialists tackled some persistent breastfeeding myths, explaining the advantages of breastfeeding for babies and mothers and what are the correct breastfeeding position.
The campaign is organized by the ,Moldovan Ministry of Health and WHO Moldova, in partnership with the Nicolae Testemițanu University of Medicine and the Moldovan Pediatric Society, the Center of Excellence in Medicine and Raisa Pacalo Pharmacy, the Moldovan Nursing Association and Mamma Breastfeeds NGO, being dedicated to the World Breastfeeding Week (August 1-7).
The awareness raising events will continue in the cities of Florești, on August 22, Hâncești, on August 23, Călărași, on August 24, and Ceadâr-Lunga, on August 26.
