The year 2018 was a successful one for the Moldovan diplomacy. The Republic of Moldova was active at international level and in 2019 will only confirm and intensify the previous efforts, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Tudor Ulianovski stated in a festivity held to celebrate the Diplomat’s Day, IPN reports.

Tudor Ulianovski said there is a clear view on Moldova’s foreign policy that is aimed at strengthening stability and the European commitment. The Moldovan diplomatic service helps promote Moldova’s foreign policy by skillfulness and professionalism.

The official noted that in 2018 the UN General Assembly adopted the resolution on the unconditional withdrawal of the foreign military forces from Moldova’s territory. There were opened five new embassies and signed over 60 bilateral agreements. The National Diplomatic Institute was created.

Attending the event, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said in time the foreign policy of the Republic of Moldova had different trajectories and priorities. Moldova was often reproached for trying to sit on two chairs. Therefore, work was done during the past three years to bring clarity in this regard. Currently, a considerable majority of Moldovans support the European course. Emphasis in the future should be laid on the extension of Moldova’s presence worldwide, promotion of economic diplomacy, attraction of investments, conquering of new markets and integration of Moldova into the global economic circuit.

In the ceremony, under an order signed by Minister Tudor Ulianovski, the medal Diplomatic Merit was handed over to the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Teodor Meleșcanu, who paid a one-day visit to Moldova.

The medal Diplomatic Merit class II was awarded to UN Resident Coordinator Dafina Gercheva, UNDP Resident Representative in the Republic of Moldova, and also to Alexei Cracan, head of the state diplomatic protocol service.

The Diplomat’s Day has been celebrated in Moldova since 2014.
