A number of 100 children from the diaspora and the Republic of Moldova were chosen to take part in the sixth edition of the program DOR – Diaspora, Origins, Returns that will take place during August 19-28 under the patronage of Prime Minister Pavel Filip, IPN reports.
The 2018 DOR program will involve children and young people from Ireland, Greece, France, Italy, Russia, Spain, Germany Czech Republic, Portugal, Canada, Romania, Ukraine, the UK and the Republic of Moldova. For the first time this year, children of compatriots who settled in Norway, the U.S., Bulgaria and Georgia also became involved.
The 100 participants were chosen out of 249 applicants - 80 from the diaspora and 20 from the country. The first come, first served principle was applied in the diaspora and priority was given to the children who didn’t take part in the program before. The participants from Moldova were selected by a contest where the applicants formulated their DOR concept in relation to migration through essays, poems, songs, drawings, photos or videos.
DOR is an initiative of the Government of Republic of Moldova that consists in the annual organization, in August, of a summer program for children of Moldovan citizens who settled abroad. The goal of the program is to strengthen the emotional, cultural and identity ties of the children – the second generation of emigrants – with their homeland Moldova. The first edition of DOR program was staged in 2013.
