2014 in numbers: EMPLOYMENT

Active persons – 1,319,600*
The share of the active population dropped by 0.7%.
The rate of activity of the active population was 44.2%.
The shares of active men and women were 51.2% and
48.8% respectively. The share of active persons in
rural areas was 56.4% compared to 43.6% in urban areas.

Occupied persons – 1,275,700*
The occupied population dropped slightly from last year,
by -0.1%. Of the total number of occupied, 50.9% were
men and 49.1% women. The urban-rural ratio was 43% to
57%. Most people were employed in agriculture – 432,100,
or 33.9% of the total occupied persons. The number of
people employed in non-agriculture activities was
843,600 people, or 66.1%, of whom 47.3% worked in
the service sector, 11.7% in industry, and 7.1% in
constructions. 76% were employed in the private sector.

Unemployed – 43,900*
The percentage of unemployed people dropped from
3.9% to 3.3%. Unemployment affected men more –
61.5% of the total number of the unemployed, and
people in urban areas – 60.6%.

Inactive persons – 1,668,800*
Inactive population aged 15 and older represented 55.8%
of the total population. The number of people reported
by households to be in migration was 349,800. As
reported by households, mostly men (64.2%) and
mostly people from rural areas (72.8%) went into
migration.
