The State Labor Inspectorate in October – November will carry out a security and health at work campaign in the processing industry, with support from the International Labor Organization. 200 economic entities from the alcoholic beverages and bread-making industries will be inspected, IPN reports.
The campaign is intended for wine and bread-making companies from all over the country and will be performed in two stages. At the first stage, the companies will be informed about the goal of the campaign, while at the second stage unplanned inspections will be carried out at them. Initially, the companies will be only warned when violations are identified, but then they will be penalized in accordance with the law.
The private individuals face fines of 2,000 to 3,000 lei for not respecting the security rules at work, the persons holding executive posts – of 4,000 to 7,000 lei, while the legal entities – of 7,000 to 10,000 lei, State Labor Inspectorate director Dumitru Stavila said in a news conference.
Most of the times, the accidents happen because the equipment is inappropriate or worn-out and because there are no instructions concerning security and health at the workplace. In this respect, the State Labor Inspectorate’s duty is to prevent the illegalities and violations of the norms that lead to accidents, stated Dumitru Stavila.
According to official statistics, about 500 work accidents happen annually in Moldova. The sick leave for restoring the work capacity is 30 days on average. In 10% of the cases, the accidents result in death, Deputy Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Sergiu Sainciuc told the same news conference.
Attending the event, International Labor Organization acting national coordinator Oxana Lipcan said the aim is to enable the women and men to do decent work in conditions of security, liberty and human dignity. The ILO allocated US$7,000 for carrying out the campaign on Moldova’s territory.
