Twenty advanced anesthesia machines worth over US$712,000, which were provided by the UN Refugee Agency and the Government of the U.S., will be distributed to district, national and municipal public hospitals in Moldova, IPN reports.

Vitalie Moscalu, director of the Institute of Cardiology, said the new equipment is based on advanced lung ventilation technology that includes several work regimes that enable to ensure better functionality. “This equipment has been awaited by our mates from the Republic of Moldova. Regrettably, the consequences after several difficult years of pandemic continue to be felt in the health system. We now need such machines to deal with serious cases in our institutions. I’m sure that this equipment will help reduce morality and cases of major urgency,” stated Vitalie Moscalu.

Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco noted that this donation is a symbolic action today, when World Refugee Day is celebrated. The health system in Moldova, since the start of the war in Ukraine, has provided all the necessary assistance to refugees. As a result, the international partners offered enormous support to the national health institutions.

Attending the event, U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Kent D. Logsdon said that after Russia launched its war against Ukraine, the Government of the United States allocated US$37.3 million for the operators of the UN Refugee Agency through the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration. This financing helped to purchase this medical equipment.

“This donation is part of our efforts to continue to invest in Moldova’s future. The United States will continue to cooperate with the international partners and the local community in developing the medical assistance capacities and in ensuring continuous access for refugees in Moldova and the communities that host them,” stated the Kent D. Logsdon.

UNHCR Representative to Moldova Francesca Bonelli said that World Reggie Day is celebrated today. This day marks not only the sufferings of refugees, but also solidarity and inclusion. “By this donation, we want to say a big thank to the citizens and the Government of the Republic of Moldova and also to all the health system workers, of all levels, for the contribution you made to support the refugees hosted by your country. This donation shows what inclusion is – offering the refugees the missed opportunities,” stated Francesca Bonelli.
