1,900 seats in higher-education institutions left unrequested

About 1,900 seats remained vacant in the higher-education institutions of Moldova as result of the repeated matriculation contest, held on 21-28 July.
The head of the Higher-Education Department of the Ministry of Education and Youth (MET), Galina Bulat, announced that about 180 seats on budgetary basis and 1,700 seats on contract basis remained vacant. The preliminary totals show that fewer applications were submitted for the pedagogic higher-education institutions, especially those of Balti, Comrat, Cahul, and Taraclia. The most seats on budgetary basis, about 80, were left without attention vacant at the Pedagogic University of Comrat.
According to her, of those 1,700 vacant seats on contract basis, about 1,500 seats are in the state higher-education institutions and 200 - in private institutions. At the moment, all higher-education institutions ceased the matriculation process. It is not yet known if MET will arrange for another matriculation stage.
According to the provisional results, at the moment, in those 16 state higher-education institutions and 13 private ones there were matriculated 7,650 students on public basis, and 19,500 matriculated on contract basis. The latter will become students only when they will pay the tuition fee.
The number of seats on budgetary basis in universities of Moldova offered to graduates from the Eastern region of RM was supplemented by 270, compared with the previously set quota.
