1,766 new cases of COVID-19 and 21 deaths reported today

As many as 1,766 infections with the novel coronavirus were recorded today, December 9. Of those confirmed with the infection, 112 are healthcare workers. There were done 4,315 tests, 3,836 of which were primary ones. Twenty-one persons lost the battle with the virus, IPN quoted Constantin Rîmiș, secretary of state at the Ministry of Health, as saying in a press briefing.

Among those who succumbed to COVID-19 is Elena Cîrnici, 72, who worked as a cardiologist at the Cahul District Hospital. According to the information posted on the Ministry’s website, Elena Cîrnici had worked for 45 years in the health system, showing professionalism and responsibility. She was transferred from the Cahul District Hospital to the National Clinical Hospital “Timofei Moșneaga” on November 18.

The cases of COVID-19 in Moldova now number 120,900. Of the 3,818 patients with COVID-19 who were hospitalized, 265 are in a serious state, while 61 were put on a ventilator. More than 8,000 persons with mild forms of the infection are receiving treatment at home, while over 31,000 persons are under supervision at home.

Constantin Rîmiș said the incidence of infections the past 14 days increased to 530 cases per 100,000 persons. The death rate stands at 7.8 cases per 100,000 people. 8.8% of those infected suffer from serious forms.
