Two days before Christmas, the trees sold at the Central Market cost a minimum of 160 lei. Most of them are brought in from nurseries from around the country, IPN reports.

Trees set up in pots or soil, without a root, cost 200 lei. If they have a root, their price can go up to 300 lei. The higher and denser the tree, the higher its price as well.

According to the “Moldsilva” Agency, there are almost 58 thousand trees for sale this season. Tree cutting commenced around the middle of December, and foresters sell them starting at 36 lei/meter for spruce and 25 lei/meter for pine.

Import trees are more expensive. In the capital’s retail points, trees imported from the Netherlands, averaging at 1.2 meters, sell for 600 lei.
