The municipality set up 16 surveillance cameras in the Park “Valea Morilor” in Chisinau in order to ensure the security of people and to prevent acts of vandalism. Two of these are high-resolution cameras and were set to function in an automatic mode so as to monitor the area around the lake and the pedestrian area, IPN reports.

The municipality also installed two barriers to limit the motor vehicles’ access. Deputy Mayor of Chisinau Nistor Grozavu said the installation of surveillance cameras was a necessary measure given the acts of vandalism committed in the area in the recent past, including throwing of benches in the lake.

The costs associated with the purchase and installation of the cameras came to about 480,000 lei. Nistor Grozavu voiced hope that the cameras will help maintain order in the Park “Valea Morilor”.

Eliferie Haruta, director of the Green Areas Association, said the environs of the lake and of the Park “Valea Morilor” will be supervised nonstop by the company’s employees through the monitoring center. All the information will be stored on a server to which the Chisinau police will also have access later so as to be able to intervene promptly if cases of vandalism and violation of public order are witnessed.
