The Ministry of the Environment signed 16 contracts with mayors and nongovernmental organizations from16 settlements for financing environment protection projects. 15 million lei will be allocated from the National Ecological Fund for the purpose, IPN reports.
The projects concern the renovation of springs and wells, among which a complex of 100 springs that were included in the register of monuments protected by the state. The projects also envision the destruction of pesticides and reconstruction of aqueducts. Acting Minister of the Environment Gheorghe Salaru has told IPN that the projects have different implementation periods. Some are to be completed in two-three months, while others in several years.
The Ministry continues to accept applications for financing projects from the National Ecological Fund. “We do not have a deadline and receive applications permanently. In autumn, we will finance other projects to create parks and forests. We select the projects according to season,” said Gheorghe Salaru.
The financing from the National Ecological Fund is expected to total about 250 million lei a year. The beneficiaries must contribute 15% of the budgets of the projects proposed for financing.
