The Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family has launched the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence Campaign with the aim of mobilizing the population, Government and civil society to prevent and combat gender and domestic violence, Info-Prim Neo reports. The objectives of the campaign are to inform the people about the legislation that protects the victims of violence, create an attitude of intolerance of domestic violence, strengthen civil society's capacity for efficiently implementing gender and domestic violence prevention programs. “The Moldovan legislation was improved by introducing the protection order, but domestic violence persists We must make effort to prevent it. The men should also be involved in combating this phenomenon,” said Deputy Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Vadim Pistrinciuc. This year's theme of the campaign is “Unite to End Violence against Women”. The campaign includes awareness-raising events, presentation of plays, broadcasting of advertisements, roundtable meetings, public debates on human rights and gender violence. According to official data, over 2,000 complaints about domestic violence have been submitted to the police in the first ten months of the year. There were reported 22 cases of murder in the family and 23 cases of causing serious injury. 80 children became victims of domestic violence. The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence Campaign will last by December 10. It was initiated on the occasion of the International Day to End Violence Against Women marked on November 26. The campaign is carried out by the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family in partnership with the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health, the OSCE Mission to Moldova, UNFPA, UNIFEM, UNDP Moldova, the International Organization for Migration, Winrock Moldova, Gender Centru, and the Center “La Strada”.
