Romania will offer €15 million for projects intended for environmental protection, adaptation to climate change and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions under the third additional protocol to the agreement between the Government of Romania and the Government of the Republic of Moldova concerning the implementation of the program of non-reimbursable technical and financial assistance to the value of €100 million, IPN reports.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment said the first project to the value of €2.6 million is designed to eliminate the direct pollution sources of underground waters by liquidating the damaged or abandoned artesian wells. Also, the unused wells will be examined for being conserved. At the first stage of the project, 11 artesian wells in Nisporeni and Hâncești districts will be liquidated or conserved.
The second project, with a budget of €10 million, will be implemented by the Chisinau City Hall. Climate change adjustment solutions for the Byk river basin will be identified as part of this. The goal of the project is to reduce the impact of floods on an area of minimum 500 ha in Chisinau and of at least 100 ha in Strășeni district.
The third project to rehabilitate and maintain the lacustrine ecosystems of the meadow of the Lower Prut (Manta, Beleu) has a budget of €1.5 million. This will help reconstruct the hydrological regime of the Beleu and Manta lakes and to reduce the losses of biodiversity by improving the management of biodiversity and natural resources.
The last project refers to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by improving the management of dangerous waste in Moldova. The state-run Dangerous Waste Management Center will be outfitted with equipment for managing particular flows of dangerous waste, tools and vehicles. The project has a value of €955,000.
